What is film-wrapping?
Film-wrapping is the process of covering a
product with clear film. Depending on the process used the film is
either heat-shrunk to fit tightly to the shape of the product, or (for
smaller items) left loose as a heat-sealed polythene bag.

Why should I wrap my goods?
- To protect them in transit from light impact
and moisture
- To ensure that on display in store they
remain "factory-fresh" no matter how many customers
examine them, yet still providing a perfect view of the product
- Film-wrap is tamper-evident - customers
purchasing well wrapped goods are reassured that their item has not
been tampered with
- To wrap 2 or more items together for a Point
Of Sale promotion or a gift-set
- Promotional labels can be applied to the wrap
instead of the product Collation, labelling and any other rework of
the items to be wrapped can be carried out by Speedpac before or
after the wrapping process
Collation,
labelling and any other rework of the items to be wrapped can be
carried out by Speedpac before or after the wrapping process

What are the different types of
film-wrapping and what do they look like?
|
|
Shrink-wrapping
- Many Point Of Sale items use this process -
it offers a good durable finish
- Can wrap irregularly shaped objects
- Can wrap several items together - may require
banding or a sleeve.
- Tamper-evident
Uses Polyolefin film - width dependent on
product
The item is fed by conveyor into a folded length of film which is
automatically heat-sealed on the other 3 sides of the item and cut to
the correct length. The product is then transferred by conveyor
through an oven which shrinks the film to the exact size of the item.

Flow-wrapping
Also known as
Fill-form and seal, Pillow-packs
- Used for collated print parts, soap etc.,
many POS and promotional items
- Good presentation of goods in a packet style
of wrapping
- Crimped seal at both ends and reverse of
product
- Tamper-evident
- Can use printed film
Uses Polypropylene film
The item is fed by conveyor into the machine and wrapped in film.
Automatically sealed at both ends and reverse of item and cut to size.

Cello-wrapping
Also known as
over-wrapping
- Used for perfumes, cigarette packets, DVD's
etc. - high value POS items
- Excellent presentation of goods
- Looks hand-wrapped due to distinctive parcel
style wrapping
- Tamper-evident
Uses Polypropylene film
The item is fed by conveyor into the film which is automatically
folded around the item. Heat-sealed across the underside and parcel
style at each end.

|
|
Sleeve-wrapping
- Used for trays of cans and bottles etc.
- For secure transit of goods rather than POS
presentation
- Tamper-evident
- Heavy-duty heat-shrunk film
- The sides of the product are left exposed
Uses Polythene film
Items are fed via conveyor between 2 rolls of film. Automatically
heat-sealed then transferred by conveyor through an oven which shrinks
the film to the exact size of the item holding the items together
securely.

Poly-bagging
Heat sealed or stapled
- Used for screws, plumbing parts, very
irregularly shaped POS items.
- Tamper evident
- Can apply a header card / euro hook for
display purposes
Uses Polythene bags
Items are dropped into a polythene bag which is then heat-sealed or
stapled together with header card as required.
